It's a lot of bummer - on all accounts really. I looked at one of the other sites...since I have yet to go to bed...and their upload stuff is a nightmare and half, which is pretty much my opinion of fanfiction.net (among other things), so alas, I don't think I'll be posting anymore without a decent alternative that is as user friendly as fanlib.
Which also means... should I even bother to continue S.O.S? I think'eth not.
Frustrations.

I would imagine that by the time you near the end, other options will come up. Meanwhile you have fans here, and you could post on your web site. And while I understand that ff.net is a pill for posting, I know global fans of the series will find your gem there. Numbers tend to be BIG there. Please finish! Jean

We're working on an alternative site. We've got a large server, several eager people to help install the software, and at the moment, we're trying to decide on a domain name. Once that's done, we'll have the FTP set up., the new boards will go up first and then we'll start tweaking the software. Unfortunately, we don't have many choices as to what auto-archive format we're going to use. Either we use FanFic (which looks like the www.myfandoms.com is using) or E-Fiction (www.fanfiction.net). There's no one I know who is able to write their own software, so we'll have to make do with either choice. This is the project site: z4.invisionfree.com/FanLibRefugees/index.php?

I was THERE on Fanlib until the very last post on the PARTY forum. *sigh* It almost felt like it wouldn't end. It even went a bit past the hour, but alas, the site went down. So, like a good writer, I set to work on an obit for Fanlib. It's slightly "Trek" slanted for the web site I wrote it for, but you can read it here: August 5, 2008 Fanlib Dies; Creativity Lives Onkvpalumproject.wordpress.com/

Over the initial shock the announcement gave me ... now I'm just adrift. Nice blog, Jean, but even with a list of sites to go to, it doesn't change the fact that they still don't meet my needs. The upload for myfandoms is horrific, fanfiction.net is a little better but promotes no true sense of community or real way for authors to connect, and the others... well, I could go on, but I won't.
moving forward.

Well that explains a lot...that Disney wanted the name because of the amount of traffic to the site, but forget the reason it actually had traffic. *eye roll*
You know, I really haven't been real impressed with the so-called 'family' company with its business 'ethics' for awhile. Gone are the 'glory' day's of Walt ... and the fact that the 'family' company just stole one of the best places for aspiring writers to convene.
Okay, enough complaining for the day. On to M&Ms and Siroc and Sancia...
Oh and Viva YBB!!!

I keep harboring Disneyland as my one of my favorite places on earth (never had those fond feelings toward Disney World). As a kid, I'd go there at least once a year. Fond memories. Classic Disney movies were just as endearing, too. But their business executives keep sending that fingernail-on-chalkboard chill up my spine with their poor public relations. (Fanlib was only one of them.) Are they out to ruin everything "Disney"? (Here's where I can get into a rant on "disappearing customer service." It's a good thing I have a lot to do today. )
