(I thought I saw a discussion on this, but I can't find it, so here's a new post.)
I was trying to figure out how old the characters are supposed to be for a fanfic I'm working on, and I am stuck. Only Louis' age is given in the series (15), so based on that Mazarin is 51 and Queen Anne is 52. Duval seems to be about the same age as them (and Bruce Boxleitner was 55 in 2005).
I am terrible at estimating ages based on looks, so I was actually quite shocked to look up the actors and discover that Karen Cliche and Tobias Mehler were 29 in 2005. I would have pegged their ages, and their characters' ages, in the mid-20s at most. Zak Santago was 24 in 2005 and Mark Hildreth was 27, which could put their characters in their mid-20s as well.
Jacqueline comes across as even younger to me, however, perhaps just a bit over 20, given that she's still a bit immature when we see her in the first episode, playing swordfights with her brother instead of tending the farm, and that her not being married doesn't seem like a huge concern. In addition, Siroc comes across to me as a few years older than the others, although I really can't put a finger on why other than my desire to give him a longer time frame for becoming well-versed in apparently every branch of science ever.
Anyone else have ideas about the characters' ages? Is there a generally accepted age for the characters throughout other people's fanfiction which I've missed?
A secondary question that wouldn't fit in the subject line: the fanfic I'm working on is a virtual continuation of the show. I absolutely don't want to step on the toes of the YBB virtual series; this is in a different format and will go in different directions, and plenty of series have more than one virtual continuation. I've been mulling this over since 2005 and kind of want to get it out of my system. =P Anyway, I wanted to do an episode exploring Siroc's backstory, which would involve flashbacks to Siroc arriving in Paris. I'm not a very visual thinker and wanted to get a good visualization of the character, so I was wondering what actor people might cast who could have played a 13- or 14-year-old Siroc in 2006 (when the second season would have aired).
Thanks for your help!

Your age estimations are as good as anyone else's. And although I don't recall a thread for this topic, I believe it was discussed somewhere, but not in length...I think.
IMHO I pegged the foursome as in their young 20s, Jacqueline maybe even younger. Here's my reasoning:
1. Historically, military recruits were young, which they all seem to be. 2. Jacqueline's father did express their inability to find a suitable husband for her. Women married very young then. So I would peg her character as a late teen.
Though you're right about Siroc being a brainiac, there are lots of smart young people, so that doesn't necessarily make him older.
I would actually say Ramon is the oldest of the four. He has more of a history, being from Spain.
But really, like I said, there wasn't much discussed in the series, and in a way it leaves the characters open to interpretation. That's a good thing.
Fan fiction is limited by your imagination, Jaded. Have fun writing. I look forward to reading your take on Siroc's history.

I just had this very discussion with a friend of mine.
I still maintain that the characters aren't supposed to be much more than about 23 or 24 AT THE MOST. Jaqueline shouldn't be more than about 15. By 15, a father would have completely dispaired of finding her a husband AT ALL. She would have been an old maid, a spinster, consigned to either care for her father for the rest of his life, or join a convent (neither of which is something she seemed to relish).
If you read the original books, Athos' son is an officer in the army at age 15. These "privates" couldn't possibly have been significantly older than that!
Where on EARTH did you find an age for Zak??? He is usually listed as unknown, or over 100.
Neither Toby nor Karen had passed their 29th birthdays when they were filming this...it was close to finished before April, I think.
Siroc and Ramón have more mystery in their ages....I think Siroc has been through an awful lot. He's so serious! He has suffered.
Ramón...Zak wrote to one of the other members of the site, and she shared his letter...his biographical background sheet said he was 28. I think it was posted about a year ago, somewhere in here.

My main problem with Jacqueline being in her late teens is that, while I can believe Karen Cliche is in her early 20s, I have trouble believing she is an older teenager, particularly next to actual teenager Robert Sheehan. So I guess my thought process was to decide what she should be (late teens) and then age her up a bit until it was believable, if that makes sense. That makes a lot of sense. He probably would have joined the Musketeers when he was older than the others. Also I mentioned this question to a friend the other day, and she suggested that it would be an interesting contrast to make Ramon the oldest, as he's the flightiest of the Musketeers (though I don't necessarily agree with that; I think we might just not have gotten a chance to see Ramon's mature side). Wikipedia. That was what I remembered; thanks! I actually had a conversation with my husband (military history buff) about that last night, which put a bit of a damper in my original estimation of the characters' ages when he insisted that they all must be both in their early 20s at most and fairly new to the Musketeers, as someone of any competence should have been promoted within a few years. But we're still doing some research on that, as the era is not his specialty at all.

Working class women were mature compared to the spoiled royalty. Thus, Jacqueline being an older teen makes sense if you're comparing her to Louis. Louis, being in his mid-teens, has lived a very sheltered life. I agree with your military-buff husband on their ages.

Also: in the original books, D'Artagnan was 18, when moving to Paris, and needed to prove himself before becoming an actual musketeer.
Never have understood that...a musketeer is merely a member of the infantry, who shoots a musket in formation. There's no actual "corps" of musketeers. Not in any army I've researched, anyway.
Wikipedia, huh? Never thought to look there...I've looked up his website, imdb, etc., and never found anything that had a real age! PLUS, Mark has always been quoted as having been the youngest of the four of them.

I always saw her as the protective older sister, but I was wondering if anyone else had another opinion. I don't recall them mentioning in the show, but I could be wrong.

She SAYS he's "about twenty years old". If she's around 15 or so, that makes him older...I always saw her as protective, only because she was the one not in prison. Beyond that, they never mention anything.
Regarding the ages of the actual actors, I can't remember where I saw that...I'd have to look it up.

Beyond that, they never mention anything. OMG, thank you so much for mentioning that! Somehow I forgot that line when I was looking through the dialogue for clues. That gives me a good justification for making her a little older than 20, though, if Gerard is around 20 and I interpret her as just old enough to be older than him. Hmm. This is getting me thinking.

But then there's the question: "Are they really brother and sister?" They could be about the same age for all they know.
Gerard gets pretty protective of her when he tells d'Artagnan to watch over her. Sometimes younger sisters can be pretty tough. (I was always giving my older sister trouble.)
Jaded, you'll just have to pick the angle you like the best and go with it.

"Are they really brother and sister"? Is there a question of that? The only place I've seen that question was...Oh, I think...one of Jean's fanfics!

Welcome!
Yes, Sue, though I did write with that bend, I think others questioned that too. Can't remember where though.

There was one hybrid Highlander, too...I just thought I'd bring that one in...never did finish reading it...Got busy.
I believe the line that grew from is usually the one in which the captain that Jacqueline then kills expresses his doubt that she's her father's daughter...
