There has to be a thread on the character of King Louis XIV--without him there would be no musketeers. So here it is:
What is it about this character that makes him so likable and humorous at the same time? He cracks me up.
Confession: He kind of annoyed me at first. He looked like a Shakespearian fop--always concerned with his looks and image while being played the silly fool. But I decided I liked him when he put Mazarin in his place. His style grew on me and after all, he's still young.

I always liked his innocence, like life was a play thing. Yet it was really cool when he'd act more mature, like in The Invincible Sword.

in the beginning he anoyed me too, the historical louis XIV was self-indulgant yes but also strong, decicisive and somewhat solomn-even as a boy. He often teased his brother Phileppe for posessing many of the traits exibited by the Louie of the young blades universe. (hence my fan-fic to elleviate this disparity)
Having said that i agree with jean, Robert Sheenan's Louie grew to be a rather endeering chap. His flashes of maturity make me think much of his flamboyant attitude was a mask that encouraged his opponents to underestimate him till he was ready to act in his own right. Even beneath the chinadoll makeup it was clear Robert is a skilled actor and a cutie and I wish him the best!
(for the record it was Henry IV of France (father of Louis XIII and Grandfather of XIV) who was responcable for creating the musketer regiment)

He's the essence of adolescence. He's matured throughout the 13 eps in the first season, especially around women. At first it was a bit softspoken, but now he's chasing women around like mad. Plus there are nice moments between him and his mother showing that deep down he is just a boy. It's nice to see that they still have each other even though they are rarely seen together.

I think King Louie is a sweetie he may be childish and misunderstood but what teenage Boy isn't, especially the ones that have pretty much gotten everything they ever wanted or have everything anyone else would ever want. But he is growing up and becoming more of a proper king.

So his character really is as eccentric in the show as the fanfic writers portray him? Hehe, I have yet to see the episodes, but from what little I've seen, I do like him. When did he put Mazarin in his place though? That I'd love to see. Hm... *thoughtful look*

Actually, if you look at the way the MAN has been characterized in other situations, this character makes perfect sense. He WAS in fact, VERY concerned with how he looked, and how many women he could seduce, or rather, command to sleep with him (check out the most recent version of The Man in the Iron Mask). He BUILT the Palace of Versailles simply because he wanted to show off his power. The Hall of Mirrors was purely about his vanity. He wore high heels because he thought they made his legs look more attractive.
I think this is TOTALLY the adolescent image of how he is generally portrayed, and the historical figure.
