It was, however, the training in Madrid that Zac did that was coming through for me...when he really gets going...I can hear it!

It's been a while; can anyone tell me which ep Ramon's sister was mentioned in? Was it during the dream sequence in "Invincible Sword" or some other time? I'm just trying to gather all the scant info we need about his background and can't remember.

Can't pinpoint the exact episode, but it's the one with the "tin can telephone" that Siroc makes out of the goblet that was a present from Ramon's sister. Are you writing a story? *grabby hands*

I found it. It was in "To Heir is Human." Or the telephone goblets were. Did we ever did get an in-show explanation for why he was in France? I've heard the dvd edition of "Enchanted" has some material about that, but the transcript isn't up, and I don't have the dvds. But is that the only relative he ever mentioned and do we have any idea how he gets along with any other family members? I don't think we know if any others exist. Writing a story...I think about stories, but don't write them. I can never really get the plots planned out. I'll have a scene or three, but nothing tying it all together. Which doesn't stop me from researching things (along with help from my dear sister). Like France had something like a .5% illegitimacy rate in the 17th century, but over 30% for Paris in the 18th (not sure if apples-to-apples comparison). Spain was higher in the 17th century, not sure about the 18th. And family size. D'Artagnan and Jacqueline come from tiny families, but much, much larger was typical, do I give Ramon and Siroc large families? I'm thinking of saying his sister is his big sister who was like 6 was he was born and claimed him as her personal babydoll. Also started developing her husband's character. A good man that she adores, but Ramon finds bland and dull. Also, I'm sorta, kinda considering having the Order of the Black Tabernacle screw up their magic (they don't seem very good at it), and toss our four Musketeers into a highly fictional middle-eastern past in a crossover fic. I actually have broad framework for that one. After I thought about it, I thought "Coat of Arms" might have put the beginning of the Order at around that time-frame, too. I'm just not sure I'd want it to have feelers that far East, though. Might have to rewatch CoA to see if there was a more specific time-frame. Have elements for Jacqueline, d'Artagnan, and Sirc, but haven't quite found Ramon's place there, besides eating and drinking with Doubar. Edit: because I left out "illegitimacy rate" and my post makes no sense.

Honestly, it has been waaaaay too long since I saw the show, and I don't have the DVDs either, so I really can't answer your questions. Yo no sé, as Ramon would say. I keep checking for new YB stories, but alas, there haven't been any recently. So please, write it? Anything!! Even a drabble would be welcomed. Percentages: What are those numbers for? Sorry, maybe I missed it, but I can't seem to figure out what it is. Infant mortality?? As for whether Ramon and Siroc would have large families, again, I have no idea. You can have my opinion, though: Ramon seems like a big family kind of guy, but Siroc seems to be too much of a loner (and way too awkward with Andre in the beginning) to have come from a big family. And wasn't there a thing somewhere that said he was a "former slave"? *shrug* I think at this point, it's whatever background you want them to have, just give it to them. Sinbad seems like a cheesy-in-a-good-way show that totally matches YB's feel, lol! Haven't looked at the entire vid, but I'm sure a crossover would be very, very fun. Go for it!

Yikes, I left out an important word, so my post makes no sense. I really should proof-read better. I'll go back and edit my post. Those are the illegitimacy rates. From .5% (for France) to 30% (for Paris) - drastic difference, right? Of course, city v. country-side, and a century apart. Now, I'm thinking of US and curious about 1880 v. 1980...I think it's just that past centuries sort of all run together for us, but the separation from our lifetime to a century ago always seems so drastic.
Series bible or website profile, I think. But it never made it into the show. Well, not the American broadcast version; can't say for other countries or dvds. If it never appeared on-screen, it's not canon to me.
It is cheesy. I think the acting (or acting style) is better in later eps. There's one line in the first ep where dialog and delivery combine to make something so clunky it's almost cringeworthy to me. But I still really do like the first season of the show. They decided to make it darker and grittier in the second season and kinda ruined Sinbad to me, so I just pretend it doesn't exist.

tzigoneIllegitimacy. Right. That makes much more sense! ;D Yes, I feel like there would be more illegitimate children running around in cities, just because they're so much bigger and have more brothels and young girls living on their own and such. You know, I think numbers just might be up for this century, if only because the Christian/Catholic pressure to marry or wait until marriage to have sex is considerably less than in the previous centuries. That's just my thinking, though. "Series bible or website profile, I think. But it never made it into the show. Well, not the American broadcast version; can't say for other countries or dvds. If it never appeared on-screen, it's not canon to me." Ha. I tend to just ignore most of what happened in the finale, and in like, maybe the sword episode. Sometimes, it's better to ignore canon, I find. But that's just me.

Yay - someone else doesn't like the finale. I'm a little sad about Gerard dying, but I could accept - it's angsty drama for Jacqueline (though, really, she already has enough) and it's not like we lose a character that's actually present for the eps. I do find the sudden appearance of the cross backstory and Jacqueline not being who she thinks is very fanficcy - that's the sort of thing to either be revealed/hinted at in the first episode or gradually hinted and revealed. But it was the sheer makes-no-senseness of it that makes me want to disregard it - Dumas being there and interacting with them and stuff just makes me reject it. And since that also lets me reject Siroc and Ramon as rapists using love potions (I have major problems with love potions in fiction, especially when used for comedic effect which is very seldom actually funny) and d'Artagnan as a would-be rapist, that's all the better. I know they used it on themselves and not the women so it's not like drugging them, but it's still mood-altering them.
BTW, I know there's the Viagra joke in there, but then I started to think...when did those Axe bodywash/spray/whatever commercials come out - was it ripping off that, too? Anyway, it's of those things that the more you think about it, the more horrifying it is to me.
As for the sword ep - I don't care for the episode at all. I don't think I've watched it since it originally aired. But based on my memories, I write it off as just a nightmare for Jacqueline. It's not indicative of her real character, but heck even in her dream a magic sword made her do it rather than it being all her. But it's just a bad dream, rather than a real portent, IMO, so I accept it as part of my personal canon that she had a nightmare. Also that her subconscious is at that point bringing up her feelings for d'Artagnan and truly believing his feelings for her are sincere, rather than just hormonal.
