one of the other other threads got me to thinking about the history of cheese in french history. I could not find any information about val de' blu cheese but I did find some information on a cheese called Valençay Cheese it is a goat cheese from the province of Berry (Loire Valley) here is some information about it frenchfood.about.com/library/blvalencay.htm here is some history on the blue cheeses if anyone is interested en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_cheese

Thanks angel. I couldn't find anything on it either. But the fact that it smelled so badly makes sense that it was a blue cheese. Maybe I don't have the spelling right or even close. In any case, these cheese sites are great. Thanks.

Wow! What I had to go through to find this thread! I, too, was really interested in the cheese, and I'm still not entirely sure whether they were calling it "Val de Bleu", or "Veins de Bleu". The second would actually make more sense...blue veins...Blue cheese, which, btw, is pretty stinky stuff! And when warm, kinda sticky. Anyway...don't ask why I happened to be searching this tonight, but look what I found! www.fromages.com/cheese_library_detail.php?id_fromage=497. Made me think of this thread!

Congratulations! I think that's the closest anyone's found to Ramon's reference. And it's made in France, too. Nice work, Sue!

No....I love bleu cheese, but it SMEEEEEEEEEEEEEELS!
There used to always be this joke on cartoons about Limburger being smelly, but...bleu...I think it smells even worse! (but it TASTES really good...if you are into that sort of thing..it IS a bit strong for some people.)
