Not that there aren't a lot of good points, here, but it's still, not one of my faves...I watched AGAIN, today, more critically, and have to agree about the André/Siroc scenes.
Ramón's hypocricy IS stated as having to do with religion...yeah, the Inquisition might have had much to do with the (I can't remember how he phrases it) looking pious, etc. Yes. The Inquisition WAS really powerful at that time. Ramón was written...I read this somewhere, as having a secret tragedy in his past...I think he might have killed someone and been exiled, actually. Can't remember for sure where to find that anymore.
Yes. She DID use every trick in her book to try to control Ramón...that conversation with Mazarin: he said something about getting Ramón into their clutches, as well...that would be gravy, I believe, was the expression he used.

I think my favorite part here was with the two kids when they first met the four, and the part in the cafe with the rhapsody - I'm such a sucker for rhyme. "..But free is what we both can be, Where horse and rider and love make three, You can't take the whip to Destiny, It goes where it goes, and where it goes...we'll see." Gorgeous. The Enchantress... hm. She was putting the moves on my guy... *feral glare* But I did enjoy the children. They were fun. Great little characters, and I wish we'd seen more of them. I do know that the boy playing André did show up in an extra scene (the DVDs should have it, as well as the malaysian airing) portraying a young Siroc, but... oh well. I suppose the garrison isn't a place for children, anyway. *sigh*

Just watching this episode again, and was wondering....has anyone else noticed that Liana looks like nothing so much as a vampire wax sculpture with an overbite?
Or is that just my lovely blu-ray? No....she always looked like she had too much pancake on her face.

I remember her skin looking incredibly smooth. But back on PAX the picture was not clear. Blue-ray magnifies everything. I'm sure it gives makeup artists a run for their money. Heh.

Never really cared for the character because of it.

And not because of her sorcerizing evility?

Nope...I might have been able to get into her evilness, if not for the awful makeup.

I really like this ep, despite some weaknesses (hey, nothing's perfect). I really appreciate the insights into Ramon. The Leana 'ship is much more "buyable" to me than the one with Emmanuelle (I mean, I see the attraction from Ramon's perspective, as he doesn't know of her evilness), but the real shining bit of the ep to me is Ramon and how we learn more of him and his nature.
Can anyone who has the dvds, or transcripts thereof, or any extended edition of the ep give me a transcript? I really want to know more about that. I feel like I'm the only one more into Ramon as a character than Siroc (like him, too, though).
I also like how Andre supported Mimou's goals. He just steadfastly states his logical arguments and asserts her ability. And Mimou is brave and determined and proactive. Also doesn't listen and is loud. Nice balance of traits to not Mary Sue it.
I do wonder though, did Duval's sister marry way above her rank? I mean, Andre's family is one of the top dozen in influence with boys in his age range. Duval has no property that we know of. He could be second or third son, I suppose. But his sister seems to do more of her own child-rearing, which I thought was less done in the upper classes. Ideas?
