With movies sometimes you get remakes and different versions of a movie many times. Some examples are Pride and Prejudice, Anne of Green Gables, Titanic, A Christmas Carol and so on. There are different versions of the Batman and Superman movies too. My question to everyone is this out of the different versions and remakes of movies which are the ones you prefer to watch and why?

Well, it depends, really. Take 'Annie,' for instance. The original 1980s film (which, I admit, I haven't seen all the way through...at least, not recently) was cute in its own way, but in that case I prefer the 1999 Disney remake, because it was a lot closer to the original stage play. In fact, with a lot of films that were made pre-90s I admit that I tend to lean towards remakes, if for no other reason than the improved production values, etc. That being said, though, there are some movies out there that no remake could possibly live up to. Rocky Horror, for one. There's been rumors of a remake for some time now, but I don't think anyone could really play Frank N. Furter the way Tim Curry did. Can't remember any others at the moment, but I do think that while there is sometimes room for improvement (as in a remake), some things are just better left alone.

I usually prefer the originals because they are just that. They are the sole idea that was created first. I do enjoy remakes like Dark Knight, but I can't really compare the two because they are each their own classic. They are so different, it would be very difficult for me to compare them.
I do like the later renditions of Shakespeare movies. Especially the modernized ones. It's just interesting to see the different interpretations a director makes. Titus, with Anthony Hopkins, was especially interesting. Gladiator armor with wait what's that??... a car??? XD

For Robin Hood, the original, with Erroll Flynn and Olivia DeHavilland, can't be beat. For The Three Musketeers, the 1973-74 version is, without a doubt, most faithful to the book, and still more humorous than most other versions I have seen. With Batman, the 1966 TV version is definitely the most fun, but nnot at all faithful to the original strips; I understand the 1990s movies are much closer, but I haven't seen most of those, nor any of the newest ones, which I have heard are even darker. But for sheer fun, the original series is best. Superman...I loved the 1978 movie and its sequels, but Lois and Clark was even better, and I STILL watch Smallville, but I'm not enamored of it...they made so many changes, that it hardly resembles anything done before, and could almost be its own show.
With Shakespeare, are you including, like, West Side Story, and the Boys from Syracuse? Or only the shows that use the original scripts?
There are so many movies, and so many that have been remade, and many that have been turned into series....it's hard to even know all of them, much less make a choice.

Pride and Prejudice's 5-hour version with Colin Firth rocks!
I know this is abstract, but Haley Mills rendition of The Parent Trap was my favorite.
The Chocolate Factory with Gene Wilder tops the newer version.
On the topic of Gene Wilder, Young Frankenstein is my favorite version of Mary Shelly's classic. Yeah, I know, it's a spoof, but I'm not fond of how the films horrorized it, and Wilder's version makes me laugh.
I'm sure I'll be back to post more; this thread could go on for a while.

With Shakespeare, are you including, like, West Side Story, and the Boys from Syracuse? Or only the shows that use the original scripts? The ones with the original script. I took a few Shakespeare classes at UNLV, and several of the papers included comparing two different movies to the original script. So those exercises pretty much added several different versions of Shakespeare tragedies and comedies to my DVD collection. Speaking of West Side Story, there's always an eternal rumor going around that a remake would be made, but I don't honestly believe it will happen. Actually, I don't want it to happen haha. You can't fix perfect, and WSS is perfection in my opinion.

HMM.... It depends... for instance... the BBC version of Persuasion is closer to book, but I perfered the actors/acresses from the newest re-make... they seemed more closer to the age the characters were supposed to be... so if I could combine the two.... lol! As far as shakesphere... the more recent like 'Merchant of Venice' which was R... I HATE it when they add stuff like that... and change it... grrr... Batman...well as mentioned those are all too different and can't really be compared... Robin Hood... I love the Earl Flynn one.. but there's a little more recent one I saw that's good too.. and Kevin Costner did an excellent job... I have all those ones... it depends on what mood I'm in... and don't forget the Disney one. What I don't like... is straying too far for the novel/orginal story.. and/or sad, dark endings... which is why I hate Titantic... and the more recent RH show season 3.... if I want to be sad/depressed... I'll turn the news on thank you!

This is kind of far fetched, but I liked Hoodwinked's take on the Little Red Riding Hood story. I loved the POV switches and laughed my head off at where they took it.
