Totally agree with that.
At the heart, d'Artagnan is a redeemable character and that's what put him in the spotlight as the lead. The lead in the story is always going to have some sort of flaw to overcome before the story is over; that's the whole essence of a tale. How a character overcomes his challenges. If he already had all the traits necessary to make a relationship with Jacqueline work, there wouldn't be anything to talk about, just the same as there would be no YB if Jacqueline had cleared her name in the first episode.
So I see that as a moot point. D'Artagnan has a lot of growing up to do, yes, but he'll have to get there; that's his purpose as a lead.
And I agree with you. The Queen and Grisham would make an amazing pairing. There's the conflict, a lot of trust issues they need to get over, not to mention the fact that they're on the opposites sides of the law. I see that as a more compelling pairing than Tessa and that wussy doctor.
But interestingly enough, Grisham strikes me as a bit of a womanizer too, albeit with a much heavier set of luggage to drag around...
Hmm.

LOL
Well, I never said D'Artagnan was a lost cause...but like I said, I just find non-canon pairings more interesting. The whole point of fanfic is to explore possibilities beyond what was in the series, isn't it? J/D has its good points, and I certainly have no objection to reading stories with that pairing. I just prefer stories that go a bit outside the box <g>.

I think that the draw of a pairing between Jacqueline and Siroc is that they are like spirits, very much the serious type...I think that draws her to him.
The reason that D'Artagnan works with her, though is that they are opposites, and opposites attract. His love for life and fun is the exact counterbalance for the darkness in her life, and her serious way of attacking it. She really NEEDS his lightness to balance her out.

There were three things that drew me to the J/S ship - number one, the episode Da Vinci's Notebook. That episode was so chock-full of Siroc/Jacqueline moments that it got me seeing the chemistry between the two of them, and seriously, I don't see the same chemistry between her and d'Artagnan at all. Sure, I know they're close as partners, brother/sister in arms, and friends - but for romance-wise, I only see that d'Artagnan is interested in her, but not that she returns anything more than friendship. Even in the show, when Jacqueline shows interest back, it seems more like friendship to me, and not that she is interested romance-wise (ignoring the last episode, but even that I could read as friendship and not anything more...) The second thing that pointed me in this direction would be our friend Siroc's fic, Someone Serious. That was a beautifully written and amazing piece of J/S work, and I thought that the quote it was based upon - from Rub-a-Dub-Sub, which unfortunately I do not have on tape - the one where Jacqueline herself tells d'Artagnan: "Even if I did want someone - which I don't - it wouldn't be someone flippant like you. It would be someone serious." I don't know about Siroc (the author, not the character), but I truly believe that what we saw in that moment on the show was Jacqueline revealing her tastes, telling d'Artagnan what exactly she wants in a husband and future mate. All girls have their dreams, and I believe that was Jacqueline's, and she's old enough to know what she wants and not be fickle about it. I loved that fic so much - the characters were in character, the style and feel was brilliant and realistic, and the romance just beautiful, in that it wasn't too mushy and it wasn't too overblown. It was just... perfect. I copy-pasted the fic because I was so worried I'd lose it again, and saved it on my computer to read again and again, and I wish there was another like it. The last reason is just my preference. I love the chemistry between the two, and I love watching them together, in what brief moments we have. I see many possible J/S scenes on the show, and I enjoy them, and when d'Artagnan gets in the way, I've been known to growl at the tv screen. ("Leave them alone, ya mutton-headed bozo!") It's not that I don't love d'Artagnan (when he's in trouble I growl at those who are endangering him, too) - but sometimes, I think he's a bit too nosy, poking in where he's not wanted.... lol. And I agree with sue in that Siroc and Jacqueline are very alike. People say opposites attract, but this isn't always true. Hm, if I do watch the series again like you guys are all planning to, I'll be sure to point out all my favorite J/S scenes. Though I don't have the first three episodes, I know they're up on youtube.

Oh, I disagree completely...to quote a completely different movie..."your lips say no, but your eyes say yes!"
Everything that Jacqueline gives to D'Artagnan in the show is standard romance literature, where the man pursues the woman until she finally quits being the hissing cat and gives in to her true feelings. She has been through so much that she KNOWS (In Rub-a-dub-sub) that her heart couldn't take a romance right now, and she THINKS that she wants someone serious like herself, but if the show had been allowed to run its course, she would have realizd that D'Artagnan balanced her out, and he would have matured enough to treat her the way she deserved. He's just a bit immature, and still enjoying the single life of a man-about-town. But she would have tamed him...given time.

You actually nailed Siroc's (member) logic pretty well. I remember when she was writing it, and Jedi, Siroc and I had long conversations as to her logic and why she crafted it the way she did. After all, the pairing can be made legitimate if adequate justifications can be made for the pairing. I personally prefer the canon pairing - J/d, because of the passion of their relationship. It may be standard, but I see love there. And maybe it's because my significant other and I 'warred' for the first year we knew each other. It's funny what blossoms in opposites, yet finds a way of making you feel whole. Anyway, the J/S pairing I actually don't mind - as compared to other stories and genres that pair non-canon ships that just don't work - probably because I did get to have such lovely conversations with our Siroc girl and the logics of her story. Which of course reminds on an off point - I miss her; must call her again soon. Dani

Siroc here. Dani gave me a heads up about this thread. Thanks for the many kind words about Someone Serious. If anyone wants a file of the fic in its entirety, I would be happy to send it, since I'm no longer able to access my fanfiction.net account. In a move that I'm sure will surprise no one, I'm going to have to throw my vote in with the J/S people here. D'Artagnan annoys me, and Siroc is so much better looking and a much better fit for Jacqueline, I think. I thought I might mention that I have tried several times to start a sequel to Someone Serious, something darker but still character driven, and I could be persuaded to pick it back up if there is interest in that sort of thing....

EEEEEEEEEEK! I'd LOVE a sequel! I love that fic sooo much... LOL, thanks for the offer of sending the file, but since jaded posted it here I copy-pasted it in a Word file on my computer already - not to distribute or claim it as mine, of course, just so that I'd have it in case anything happened and I couldn't access it here. I read it now and again, and each time I enjoy it more and more. I'd totally support a sequel! ... after my exams end, of course, lol. You have an ff.net account, siroc? What's the username?

I will throw my interest in for a sequel though I will probably have to prepare myself if it's going to be darker. I tend to be drawn to the light, fluffy, silly fics, but that in no way means that I didn't enjoy your fics, Siroc. It's good to see you! *hugs*

How could I say no to a YB fic (even if if is a S/J pairing ... am I really saying that)? Still, I never would have written a 32,000 word story, followed by another 108,000 sequel if I didn't love the D/J pairing. D & J 4eva! <3 Silly me. ;D

*Steps in between* Put the pies down!!! Come now, ladies (do we have gents here?), you know if our girl Siroc writes it, it'll be gold and will do the J/S pairing a great deal of justice. Even if you don't like the pairing, you know it'll be great. So, no pies. and if you toss them at me (an avid D/J shipper, but a major Siroc lover) I'll pull out the canned whipped cream and spray ya'll first!!!! Take aim if you dare!!!!!!!!! hahahhahahah

Oh, I'm not worried about the sequel - it's the sudden entrance of D/J vibes into this room.
LOL.
But nah. I don't really mind D/J. It's my second choice. Ramon and Jacqueline, though - a little too out there, I think.
