I don't think they wrapped it up enough either. If they had, I doubt any of us would be as interested in the show as we are. If THEY had finished the story, WE wouldn't have to. (hence, as often mentioned, the huge quantity of fanfic. I seriously think that something catastrophic (better word) would have made J & D get together. If there was a season 2, Also, anyone wonder if he has a higher ranking than the other three? If I'm not mistaken, Siroc, LePonte and Ramon are referred to as 'private' but d'Artagnan? He's kind of like the defacto leader for them. I wonder if he got promoted to corporal. At the very least, he had known Capt. Duval for most of his life...The Capt. and D'Artagnan Sr. had been comrades in their youth, and The Capt. occasionally confides in Young D'Art, plus, as you say, he's the de Facto leader of the four of them...they turn to him, too. Remember how Ramón almost frantically tells him he can't resign in Four Musketeers and a Baby? As if, if D'Artagnan were gone, the three of them would fall apart, too. (so much emotion in such a tiny bit of footage) I, too, would LOVE to know what the writers were planning with the cross...that was the one thing that was completely left hanging at the end of Secrets. (I kinda got a glimmer of hope from that the first time I saw it, but, alas! not to be satisfied.)

About D'Art's actual status...

I'm not completely sure I actually see D'art as the "leader" of the foursome, I will not contest the fact that he most likely has the most experience, but Jaques definetly rivals him for the position of "leader" as far as that goes I think that's one of the reasons they clash so much, in addition to denial of course, they're both strong willed leader types, and Jaques is most certainly not going to let herself be ruled just because she lost the societal gender war.

heheheeh yeah, I agree...
but who wants to agree ALL THE TIME? What man wants a wife who sits docilely mending the clothes and never speaks her own mind? not a real one anyways...

I absolutely love this conversation.
J and D would end up together, given that the show would not be ruined by "bad writer's disease," which has killed a number of shows. Off the top of my head there's Robin Hood killing Marian and the final episode of Star Trek Enterprise, These are the Voyages, which fans dub as the abomination. Putting a disaster aside, I do think J and D would end up together.
Some exciting events, both historic and fabricated, would give them opportunity to explore their characteristics and relationship. What would be out of character by the end of season one, would develop into a genuine caring for one another by the end of the series. No doubt, there would be tragedy, jealousy, soul-searching events that would bring them together. Jacqueline's trust would grow. D'Artagnan's maturity would deepen. Their dependency and love for one another would tighten.

Someone mentioned her crucifix earlier, I don't suppose a tragedy linked with that would bring them together.

ok.....yeah I suppose good shows always have terrible endings because no one really wants them to end.

No... not necessaily...only when the writers/ creators make stupid decisions
Star Trek: Next Generation and Voyager had AWESOME endings!!!! We were sad to see them end, but they awesome endings...and I had no complaints.

true but I can list many more good shows with bad endings than good shows with good endings.

I suppose, once the show has been cancelled, and the writers and producers have moved on emotionally, they aren't putting as much into the show that they have been working on...minds are elsewhere, just collecting a paycheck until their contract runs out.
Which would account for the Star Treks, with planned ending times, having better conclusions.

That's a good theory sue, ether that or they might have it scripted to a certain point and then it gets canceled suddenly so they have to scrape together an end quickly.

Which is, most likely, what happened with Young Blades...
